Air abatement system RTO

Pollutants in exhaust streams from printing and coating applications can be oxidized with the heat energy released used for fully regenerative pre-heating of exhaust air. No primary energy is required during normal operation of an Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer, thus making the system self-sustaining. This is also known as “flame free oxidation”. In addition, heat energy can be recovered and led to heat recovery system (ex. a thermal oil system) for use in machine heating.

Processes

Printing
Conditions: Exhaust air from rotogravure printing, flexo-printing, or offset printing machines.

Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr’s recommendation is the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer with the potential addition of a heat recovery system for additional fuel and energy savings.

Wallpaper / Flooring
Conditions: Exhaust air from intermediate dryer and gelling oven ducts is fed to an oxidizer via a first exhaust air preheater.  Due to the plasticizers contained in the process’s exhaust air, special design elements have to be considered to reduce condensation in the pollution control system. The thermal energy generated by the oxidation of the pollutants can be returned to the production facility via a thermal oil heat recovery system.

Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr’s recommendation is the Ecopure® TAR Recuperative Oxidizer with the potential addition of a heat recovery system for additional fuel and energy savings. 

Adhesive Coating
Conditions: Exhaust air from the individual zones of the coating plants should be treated in a regenerative oxidizer. VOCs carried into the oxidizer with the exhaust air are sufficient to operate the oxidizer without additional primary energy (natural gas, propane, etc).
Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr’s recommendation is the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer, the Ecopure® TAR Recuperative Oxidizer, or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.

Coating
Conditions: Exhaust air from coating and laminating plants are fed by a central exhaust air collecting system to a thermal oxidizer. Depending on the pollutants contained in the air, either regenerative or recuperative oxidizers are used. The excess energy generated by the oxidation process due to the high VOC content is returned to the production process via subsequent heat recovery systems.
