Air abatement system RTO

Fibers are used in the aircraft industry, in the manufacturing of golf equipment, tennis rackets, and other sporting equipment.  Additional products and everyday materials containing fiber are air bags, a base material for Bitumen coated roof mats, automotive parts, and for insulation material.

Processes

Carbon Fiber
Conditions: Applications with pre-oxidation ovens with medium exhaust air flows around 20,000 Nm³/h at approx. 250°C containing about 1 g/Nm³ of HCN and NH3.
Applications with carbonization ovens – one low temperature at approx. 400°C and one high temperature at approx. 600°C – both with low exhaust flows of approx. 700 Nm³/h, low oxygen, but high concentrations of HCN and NH3. Exhaust air may contain some carbon fiber dust and sometimes, silicone products from the fiber pre-cursor.  In addition, sometimes inlet and outlet hoods from the ovens need to be treated as well which have large air volumes with low HCN and NH3 concentration.

Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr recommends the Ecopure® VAR Direct Fired Thermal Oxidizer with waste heat recovery for heating the pre-oxidation ovens and pre-heat of the pre-oxidation exhaust air.  Exhaust gas from carbonization ovens are injected directly next to the burner.

Nylon Fiber
Conditions: Normally medium air flows around 15,000 to 70,000 Nm³/h with low concentrations of sometimes Methanole, CO, Formaldehyde and others.

Abatement System Recommendation: For this application, recommends the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.
