Air abatement system VAR

For the chemical industry Dürr offers catalytic oxidizers and thermal oxidizers as well as adsorption and scrubber systems.

After oxidation of the pollutants, it can be necessary to eliminate any halogenated compounds from the inorganic residues by means of absorption and/or a catalytic reactor is required to separate nitrous oxides into nitrogen and oxygen. Here, too, Dürr optimizes energy management within exhaust air purification systems.  If liquid solvent residues are available, they are put to use in order to save primary energy.

 

Processes


PTA
Conditions: Large air flows with low solvent concentration, low oxygen of approx. 4 %, and some Methylbromide.
Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr recommends the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer if a customer installs air purification behind a turbine. If the customer chooses to install an air pollution control system before a turbine, the Ecopure® HPX High Pressure Catalytic Oxidizer would be most applicable for this application.


Fine Chemicals
Conditions: Exhaust air can contain halogenated, nitrogen oxidie, and other hydrocarbons. Exhaust air can contain low oxygen or no oxygen.  Production can be discontinuous or continuous with potential low air flows with sometimes high concentrations.
Abatement System Recommendation: For applications such as highlighted above, Dürr recommends the Ecopure® VAR Direct Fired Thermal Oxidizer and in special circumstances, the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.


LDPE and PP
Conditions: Large air flows with low solvent concentrations of 0.5 to 2 g/Nm³ of Ethylene and Vinylacetate at LDPE plants or Propylene at PP plants. Exhaust air contains some dust fine.
Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr recommends the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer with a self-cleaning dust filter before the thermal oxidizers.


EPS
Conditions: Normally two exhaust air flows – one with large flow with low solvent concentration of 0.5 to 2 g/Nm³ of Pentane and another with small flow with high Pentane concentration. Flows can be mixed together or a highly concentrated flow is injected next to a burner.
Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr recommends the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.  In unique scenarios, the Ecopure® TAR Recuperative Oxidizer and Ecopure® KPR concentrator have been used with high success.


Latex / Rubber
Conditions: Normally large exhaust air flows with low solvent concentration of 1 to 2 g/Nm³ of Hexane, traces of halogenated hydrocarbons, sometimes also some rubber dust in the exhaust air.
Abatement System Recommendation: Dürr offers the Ecopure® RTO Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer or Ecopure® RL rotary Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.  If necessary, a pre-filter or Envirojet as pre-scrubber for dust will be needed.  Also, corrosion resistant material may be necessary for the RTO or RL.
